How to Measure and Install

Measuring customized window shades can be a bit tricky, but Allesin has got you covered.

Our easy-to-follow, step-by-step guides make the measuring and installation process super simple.

How to Measure for Inside Mount

Inside-mounted shades are designed to fit snugly within the window frame, leaving your decorative molding exposed.

Measuring the Depth

For an inside-mount installation, your window needs sufficient depth. Minimum depth requirements vary by shade type. Head to the specific product page to verify the depth needed.

Measuring the Width

  • Measure the width of the window frame at three points: the top, middle, and bottom, from one inside edge to the other.
  • If you get a fraction like 1/16” or 1/32”, round down to the nearest 1/8”.
  • Select the smallest of these three width measurements. This will be your window width.
  • If you choose drill installation, subtract 1/4 inch from your window width. So, Your order width = Your window width - 1/4''
  • If you choose no-drill installation, Your order width = Your window width

Measuring the Height

  • Measure the height of the window frame in three places: the top-left corner, the center at the top, and the top-right corner, all the way down to the sill.
  • If you encounter a fraction of 1/16” or 1/32”, round up to the nearest 1/8”.
  • Choose the tallest of these three height measurements as your window height. This will be the order height, as Your order height = Your window height

💡 Tips for Inside Mount

  • Use a steel tape measure for the most accurate results.
  • Confirm your window has enough depth for an inside mount.
  • If not, you can switch to an outside mount or explore other suitable products.
  • For no-drill installation, make sure the wall surface is smooth and flat.
  • For drill installation, check that the window frame or casing is sturdy enough to drill into directly.

How to Measure for Outside Mount

Outside-mounted shades cover the entire window opening and the window frame. You will need to make some additions to order the proper size.

Measuring the Width

  • Measure the width at the very top of the window frame.
  • Add 4 to 6 inches to the measurement you just took. This additional width is essential for fully covering the window.
  • If you desire more light blockage and enhanced privacy, increase the measurement further based on your preference.

Measuring the Height

  • Measure the height from three locations: the left side, the center, and the right side of the window frame.
  • Select the tallest of these three height measurements. Then, add the recommended 4 to 6 inches to this tallest value. This addition ensures that the window, along with any possible vertical gaps, is completely covered.
  • However, if you want the shade to rest on the windowsill, the height should be measured as the distance from the starting point (usually the top edge where you plan to install the shade) to the windowsill.

💡 Tips for Outside Mount

  • Use a steel tape measure for the most accurate results.
  • Please note that we will customize your order strictly according to the measurements you provide.
  • For drill installation, check that the window frame or casing is sturdy enough to drill into directly.
